SECRET
POSTCARD SHOW
25 Aug - 5 Sept 2003 : Hub Gallery - 13 Star Street, Geelong
Hub gallery opened an exciting and subversive postcard show that highlighted the work of over 200 artists from Geelong and around the world. Postcards were created over a period of four months and contributed to the Geelong Arts Alliance's first fund raising event to support contemporary art in Geelong.
Postcards were auctioned with the identity of the artist concealed, focusing the viewer on the aesthetics of the work rather than the name of the artist. This was an exciting opportunity for bidders to purchase works by Geelong artists from X-press Youth, Bellarine Secondary College, Art Unlimited; and also overseas artists from India, Belgium, Italy, Germany, Finland, Canada, Brazil, Mexico and Japan.
The exhibition featured over 300 postcards and the auction taking place on the 30th August sold a large portion of these postcards.
The GAA wishes to especially thank all the artists who donated their energies by participating, and also the kind support of those who attended the auction.
