About

Solid Ink is a group for Geelong writers aged 15 - 25. Solid Ink meets regularly and self publishes the writings of its members.

Brief History

Solid Ink is a project started in April 2002 that met regularly at HUB Gallery in Geelong, with the support of David Dellafiora and GATE. These weekly sessions held at Hub consisted of hour and half writing sessions covering poetry, short prose fiction, performance and the development of writing skills. Sessions were led by rotating co-ordinators Gabrielle Bridges, Jennifer Smith and Jess Dunn. In June 2002 the group received funding from the City of Greater Geelong's community arts program that allowed the presentation of three performance nights. Members of the group were also keen to document and publish their work, so the co-ordinators sourced further funding from Regional Arts Fund as well as council's discretionary fund that allowed the publishing of four Solid Ink zines. The group held an exhibition in October 2002, which incorporated both text and accompanying graphics, and readings were held at the opening.

Solid Ink is auspiced by the Geelong Arts Alliance.
